LAHORE: A Pakistani boy with hearing and speech disabilities who was found incarcerated in an Indian prison has finally reunited with his family.

Indian authorities handed Hasnain over to Rangers personnel at the Wagah border on Monday.

Sweetmeat was distributed when the boy, said to be 14 years of age, reached his house in Shad Bagh, Lahore. Hasnain’s mother thanked the government, Ansar Burney Trust and Geo News for helping her reunite with her son.

The boy with hearing and speech disabilities mistakenly crossed the border into India on May 2. He was arrested by the Indian forces.

On receiving information regarding Hasnain being present in Amritsar prison, Geo News ran the report in November. Subsequently, social activist Ansar Burney started efforts to reunite the boy with his family.

An officer of High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi, Fouzia Manzoor, met the boy, when the latter drew the flag of Pakistan, communicating his nationality.

Earlier, Hasnain was moved from the prison to an observation home in Faridkot, India, sources said, before being sent to Pakistan.
