KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh chief minister Fazal-ur-Rehman has approved of a recommendation seeking an extension in the summer break till July 31 on Tuesday.

Last month, the Sindh education department had recommended an extension in the summer break of schools, colleges and universities till July 27 in view of the forthcoming elections.

According to the notification by the Sindh education department, summer break has been extended to July 31 as school teachers would be busy discharging election duties.

With the new notification in place, the summer break sees an extension of 16 days with schools reopening in August.

This year, vacations were announced early due to the blistering heat at the start of the holy month of Ramazan, with the Sindh government announcing early summer vacations for public and private schools across the province from May 14 to July 16.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has scheduled the polls on July 25.
