GHOTKI: Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is on a two-day visit to Karachi, inaugurated the Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim on Saturday.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the premier praised Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar and announced that 10 billion trees will be planted across Pakistan.

"Forest land in Sindh and Punjab was encroached on. Companies have occupied the forest land in the name of leases," he regretted.

PM Imran stressed the need "to save green areas in the cities" and said, "The future generations should be given a good environment."

Stating the parks in Karachi were encroached on, the premier stated, "Slowly, Karachi's land went into the hands of land grabbers and parks and recreational grounds diminished."

"I am amazed to see this park and Wasim Akhtar has done commendable work by restoring this park," the prime minister said about Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim. "We need to save green areas in Karachi and there should be grounds here for children to play."

"Miandad said that the ground he used to play cricket in has now been encroached on," he regretted and stressed the need for green spaces and parks in the port city..

A day earlier, PM Imran performed the groundbreaking of Balochistan Health Complex, Quetta-Zhob Dual Carriageway as part of western alignment of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and New Gwadar International Airport.
