Ramzan for kids: 3 amazing kiddie meals for Iftar

Have your little ones gather the blessings of Ramzan and treat them to these three amazing, succulent Iftar meals after a long, tiring day of fasting.

Square pizza

Ingredients:

For pizza dough

 Plain flour/bread flour 500 g

 Instant yeast 14 g

 Salt 1 tsp

 Sugar 1 tsp

 Oil 1/8 cup

 Tap water 1-1/2 cup

Other ingredients:

 Chicken Tikka small pieces 1 bowl

 Chilli garlic sauce as required

 Italian seasoning as required

 Red chilli flakes as required

 Onion 1

 Mozzarella cheese as required

 Cheddar cheese as required

Method:

1. In a bowl add flour, salt, yeast and oil.

2. Add water a little at a time and mix it.

3. Transfer this to a flat surface and knead for about 7-10 minutes.

4. Grease a bowl with oil, keep the dough inside, cover with cling film and keep it in hot place for 1 hour.

5. After 1 hour you will see it is double in size.

6. Cut it in 2 equal parts.

7. Place it on a tray and loosely cover with plastic wrap.

8. Keep it for 1 more hour.

9. Take chicken tikka pieces and chop them in small chunks.

10. Slice 1 onion.

11. Saute for 1 minute with 1 tbsp oil, salt and Italian Seasoning.

12. Layer chilli garlic sauce, sprinkle Italian seasoning, and red chilli flakes, layer chicken.

13. Top with both cheese and onion slices.

14. Bake it on 180C preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.

Crispy Fried Broast

Ingredients:

For marination:

 Chicken with bones 1 kg

 Yogurt 4 tbsp

 Lemon juice 1/4 cup

 Salt 1 tsp

 Paprika powder 1-1/2 tbsp

 Ginger garlic paste 2 tbsp heaped

 Meat tenderizer powder 1 tsp

For coating:

 Self raising flour 1 cup

 Rice flour 1/2 cup

 Salt 1/2 tsp

 Chat masala powder 1 tbsp

Method:

1. Take 12-16 small pieces of 1 chicken.

2. Add all marination ingredients.

3. Marinate it for 1/2 hour to7 hours.

4. In a bowl, mix all coating ingredients together.

5. Coat chicken pieces one at a time in the coating batter nicely.

6. Heat oil in a pan and put chicken pieces in it.

7. Cook on medium heat for about 15 -17 minutes.

8. Serve with sauce or a dip.

Shawarma 

Ingredients:

For chicken marination:

• Boneless Chicken 700-750 g

• Salt 1 tsp

• Lemon juice 1/4 cup

• Yogurt 4 tbsp

• Paprika powder 2 tsp

• Cumin powder 1-1/2 tsp

• Oil 4 tbsp

For bread:

 Plain flour or wheat flour 500 g

 Active dry yeast 2 tsp

 Sugar 1 tsp

 Salt 1/2 tsp

For crunchy salad:

 Red onion 2 big

 Tomato 1

 Iceberg lettuce 1 small

 Pickled cucumber 2-3

 Pickled jalapeno 3-4

 Parsley 1/2 cup chopped

 Salt 1 tsp

 Paprika powder 1 tsp

 Sumac powder 3 tsp heaped

For yoghurt sauce:

• Yoghurt 250 g

• Salt 1/4 tsp

• Lemon juice 2-3 tbsp

• Paprika powder 1/2 tsp

• Tahini sauce 3 tbsp

Method:

1. Take the chicken and marinate with all marination ingredients for 1 hour or overnight.

2. Keep foil on a baking tray and place chicken on it.

3. Cook it in an oven or on a grill setting for 20 minutes or cook it in a pan on the stove until tender.

4. Cut in small pieces and set aside.

For bread:

1. Add all bread ingredients in a bowl.

Knead it with almost 1-1/2 cup tap water.

After 1 hour, take a handful of dough and make a ball with the help of dry flour.

2. Roll it.

Heat a griddle pan or tawa nicely.

3. Put the bread on it.

4. When you see bubbles on it, flip it.

5. Cook the other side for almost 30 seconds or until nicely done.

For crunchy salad:

1. Take 2 big red onions and slice them fin.

2. Soak them with 1 tsp salt and ice cold water in the fridge for 1 hour

3. Drain the water and wash it properly.

Cut all the listed vegetables in slices.

4. Add in salt, paprika and sumac powder.

5. Mix well.

For yogurt dip:

1. Mix together all dip ingredients.

2. Add cold water in it.

3. Mix and set aside.

Assembling:

1. Take bread.

2. Keep chicken, salad, and yoghurt dip on it.

3. Roll in butter paper, serve with salad and yoghurt dip.
