KP budget of Rs0.9tr presented for 2019-20, Rs0.103tr set for merged areas' development

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra on Tuesday presented the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2019-20, with a total outlay of Rs0.9 trillion.

KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan said of the KP budget's total outlay, Rs0.103 trillion was allocated for the development of the merged areas of the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

CM Khan said the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2019-20 was 41 percent higher than last year's comparable period, in which maximum relief was provided to all segment of the society.

For the first time, Khan said, the cabinet has approved budget proposals for the tribal districts, besides an announced decrease of 12 percent in the cabinet members' salaries.

Addressing the cabinet meeting, the chief minister said it was a big and historic budget in which 41,687 new jobs in the public sector would be created.

A 31-percent increase was registered in ADP 2019-20 apart from tribal districts, he said, adding that the development outlay of tribal districts was three times higher than last year, which was unprecedented and would expedite the pace of economic development there.

CM Khan said a sum of Rs17 billion was allocated for the relief and assistance of Temporarily Displaced People (TDPs) in the 2019-20 budget.
