KARACHI: Karachi traffic police have identified at least 19 spots at the metropolis' roads where carelessness by motorists could prove dangerous in terms of mugging and accidents — or worse — fatal.

Following investigative research, authorities in the southern port city have termed these 19 places as "sensitive". Actions on part of the public that could prove dangerous or fatal include violating rules at traffic signals and other intersections, overspeeding, and running while jaywalking.

These include:

  1. Shahrah-e-Faisal
  2. Khayaban-e-Muhafiz in Defence Housing Authority (DHA)
  3. Shahrah-e-Pakistan
  4. Hakim Ibn-e-Sina Road
  5. Liaquatabad No. 10 and vicinity
  6. Teen Hatti
  7. Various locations at Rashid Minhas Road
  8. Johar Morr
  9. Drigg Road
  10. Gul Bai
  11. Maripur Road
  12. ICI Bridge
  13. Route from Chamra Chowrangi to Vita Chowrangi in Korangi
  14. Route from National Highway to Malir 15
  15. Saeedabad Police Training Center and surroundings
  16. Hub River Road
  17. Multiple locations at M.A. Jinnah Road

  19. Several areas in Gulberg

In the past year, at least 71 people died in 88 accidents at these locations, whereas more than 30 crashes, including fatal ones, have occurred in the current year.

"If people heed the traffic guidelines and not violate the rules, such accidents can be reduced to a large extent," Karachi traffic police said, urging people to be aware, cautious, and prioritise their safety.
