The provincial assembly of Sindh met for 91 days, the highest number of working days among the four provincial assemblies during 2018-19.
According to a comparative analysis released by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat) on the performance of the four provincial assemblies, Sindh Assembly leads the other provincial assemblies with a total of 303 working hours during 2018-19, followed by Punjab Assembly of Punjab with 77 working days.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly which held its sessions for 61 working days during the year sits at the third spot, followed by Balochistan Assembly having met for 51 working days during the first year after formation.
In terms of the number of bills passed, the KP Assembly passed 30 bills during 2018-19, the highest among four provincial assemblies; while the Balochistan Assembly passed just eight, the lowest number of bills in the first year.
The Punjab Assembly sits at third with 17 legislations passed, while the Sindh Assembly passed 12 bills during the first year.
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan had the highest attendance percentage among the four chief ministers at 60.78 per cent, followed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Punjab’s Usman Buzdar and KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
Kamal attended 31 out of 51, Shah was present in 37 out of 91 working days, Buzdar was only part of 12 out of 77 and Khan joined just nine out of 61 sittings of KP Assembly.
In the list of opposition leaders with the highest attendance, Leader of the Opposition in Balochistan Assembly Malik Sikandar Khan leads with an attendance percentage of 80.30 per cent. He attended 41 out of 51 sittings of the assembly.
Punjab opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz had the lowest attendance at 25.97 per cent of all the four leaders of the opposition, attending 20 out of 77 sittings of the Punjab Assembly during the first year.
Syed Firdous Shamim Naqvi attended 67 out of 91 sittings of the Sindh Assembly, while KP’s Akram Khan Durrani was present for 44 sittings.
