Shahbaz Gill resigns as Punjab CM spokesperson, Awn Chaudary removed as adviser

Chief spokesperson to the Chief Minister of Punjab Dr Shahbaz Gill on Friday resigned from his position with immediate effect as the provincial government reshuffled some ministerial portfolios. 

The spokesperson to the chief minister resigned via a handwritten note addressed to Punjab CM Usman Buzdar. Gill did not cite any reason behind his abrupt decision.

However, in a post on the social networking platform Twitter, Gill earlier said that he would be sharing important news with his 88,000 followers very soon. 

Awn Chaudhry removed as adviser to CM

In another major development, Buzdar fired Special Adviser Awn Chaudhry and appointed Asim Mehmood in his place. 

Later in the day, the chief minister departed for Saudi Arabia on a state visit.

Earlier this month, Dr Shahbaz Gill had come under fire for commnets that labelled lady constable Faiza Nawaz as "emotional" and touted "misinformation" and "provocation" pertaining to a case involving Nawaz.

Dr Shahbaz Gill was speaking to Geo News about how Ahmed Mukhtar Advocate, a lawyer intoxicated on power, had violently slapped Constable Faiza Nawaz in public, but the court approved his release on bail.

Terming it a "saddening incident", Gill had said what Mukhtar did was despicable but that the media had "spread misinformation by saying the reason behind the approval of the sexist lawyer's bail was the minor mistake of an error in name" in the first information report (FIR).
