KARACHI: A nine-member delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) led by its Secretary General, Sarmad Ali, met with Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House here on late Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Information Minister, Sharjeel Enam Memon, Special Assistant to C.M. Waqar Mehdi and Secretary Information Sindh, Syed Safdar Ali Shah.
An official statement said that the APNS delegation apprised the Chief Minister that Sindh is only province which has levied the General Sales Tax on newspaper advertisements while the remaining three provinces have not levied GST on newspaper advertisements.
The office bearers of APNS requested the Sindh Government to exempt the newspaper advertisements from G.S.T. They were of the view that the Board of Revenue Sindh can issue such notification of exemption. The statement further pointed out that the Chief Minister termed the view point of APNS as valid and said that he will discuss the issue with Sindh Finance Department and that the matter will be resolved.
The APNS delegation thanked the Chief Minister Sindh with whose efforts the provincial Information Department had made payment of substantial amount to newspapers against long time outstanding advertisement bills.
