KARACHI: A woman who had filed for divorce from her husband and was found dead two days ago near the metropolis' near Maripur Road was identified on Wednesday as Asma, police confirmed.

According to police, Asma's bullet-ridden body was found Monday night on ICI Bridge near Maripur Road. She had earlier filed a petition for divorce from her husband — identified as Nabeel — and was living with her sister in Karachi's Sher Shah neighbourhood, they added.

The late Asma had married Nabeel by choice six months ago, officials noted, but had submitted a divorce petition in the court owing to fights with her husband. She had also registered a first information report (FIR) against him at the Sher Shah police station for threatening her.

Police explained that she had gone out on Monday but was found dead by night. Her family have filed a murder case against Nabeel, the husband, as well, they added.

However, Nabeel is absconding as of reporting time, police said, but efforts were being made to arrest him.
