Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif on Friday took a dig at young Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah over his age.

The 16-year-old Naseem has been attracting admiring glances from world over for his ability to generate express pace at his age.

However, Kaif dug out a 2018 tweet from a sports journalist where Naseem was referred to as a 17-year-old.

Kaif dubbed Naseem a “terrific prospect” but wondered how a year later he has turned 16 instead of 18. “He is aging backwards I think,” he added.

Perhaps, the skepticism regarding Naseem’s age stems from the case of Shahid Afridi, who was billed as a 16-year-old at the time of his Pakistan debut in 1996, only for him to admit this year that he was at least three years older at the time.
