Peshawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz threw his weight behind opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq, saying that he "is one of the best players who has played for Zalmi".

Speaking to media, the right-arm pacer, who was appointed skipper of the "Yellow Storm" said that Imam should not be judged on the basis of just one performance.

"Unfortunately, we were not able to make space for him earlier but the team needs him now. It doesn’t matter if he couldn’t score in this game. Good and bad days are part of the game. Imam will win us the upcoming matches," he said.

The skipper also lauded the newly appointed head coach Darren Sammy for his "enthusiasm" and credited him for the franchise’s success.

"Credit goes to Sammy for the way he led Zalmi for three years. He is the one who will still be leading the team. He has proved to be a very enthusiastic coach as he was repeatedly conveying messages to players in the match against Quetta," Riaz added.

On Thursday, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 30 runs, with veteran batsman Shoaib Malik scoring a fiery half-century to secure the victory for his team.
