KARACHI: Commuters continue to suffer in Karachi as public transport is nowhere to be found due to the two day weekly closure of CNG stations, Geo News reported.
The outlets terminated sales at 11pm Tuesday night and won’t be able to offer CNG till 11pm Thursday.
Hordes of commuters were seen stranded at bus stops. Taxi/rickshaw owners are seen charging high prices for fares.
The few minibuses running on diesel that somehow showed up on the roads were jam-packed with commuters.
When contacted, President Karachi Transport Ittehad told Geo News that most of the buses have been switched to CNG thus they could not be run on diesel anymore.
Another grave concern is compromised rescue services as nearly 70 percent of the ambulances are standing idle without fuel since Tuesday night.
Apart from commuter-suffering this closure has brought trade activities in the city to a nearly halt with routine electricity load shedding in markets, as traders claim their businesses suffer at least Rs1 billion loss daily for several such other reasons.
