  • E-scooter owner Vish Ganti hauls to fifth floor apartment to recharge vehicle.
  • There is scarcity of charging points in building.
  • Ganti says his act was symbol of protest and others should not try it.

The owner of an electric scooter in Bengaluru carried his vehicle to the fifth floor of his apartment building to recharge it in his kitchen, Zee News reported.

Due to the scarcity of charging points in the building, Vish Ganti had to take this extreme step.

After requesting his apartment community multiple times to let him install EV charging points, Ganti gave up and decided to recharge his bike at home.

Ganti, who is the Vice President of Product Management & GM AutoGrid India, said that this was an act of protest. He took to LinkedIn and said that he wanted ‘to create awareness of this ground reality.

In his post, Ganti added, "Everyone needs to be educated about the importance of EV charging infrastructure [...] how do residential communities and common people understand the intricacies of living with an EV."

He asked readers to not try what he did because of the risks associated with the act. He emphasised that he just wants to create awareness. "Please don't try this yourself. There are real risks from shock and fire. This post is only to generate awareness amongst the EV community," he wrote.

Even though Bangalore is usually called the EV capital of India, many people related to his post, and some shared that they chose not to get electric vehicles because of the same issue.

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) had promised to install 140 electric vehicle charging stations across Bengaluru. Problems, however, are still common.
