NEW DELHI: Wary over the "rising" naval security concerns, Indian Navy has not only inducted a stealth frigate into its fleet but also launched a new naval base, Geo News reported.

Earlier in April, the first of the three stealth frigates built in Russia for the Indian Navy was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Russia’s Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad.

The 4,000 ton frigate, INS Teg, is armed with the BrahMos cruise missiles, surface to air missiles, 100 mm medium range gun, torpedo tubes and anti-submarine rockets.

The warship, which will reach Indian shores by the end of June this year, incorporates stealth technologies to reduce radar cross-section, infra-red and magnetic signatures as well as radiated underwater noise.

The other two stealth frigates of the same “Teg class” — INS Tarkash and INS Trikand will be delivered by September 2012 and the middle of 2013 respectively. Naval officers had announced last week that the INS Teg would be commissioned on April 27.

Meanwhile, the MoD also announced the maiden flight of the indigenously built LCA Tejas Navy (developed for eventual induction into the Navy) in Bengaluru.
