Kasie Hunt, who is a CNN anchor and chief national affairs analyst, gave birth to her second child on a bathroom floor after a shocking 13-minute labour, CNN Business reported.

Hunt and her husband Matthew Mario Rivera welcomed their daughter Grey Hunt Rivera in a surprise delivery last week.

The anchor gave birth to her daughter at home in a sudden labour that lasted for 13 minutes.

“Grey is already showing us her independent streak. We were expecting her to arrive via a scheduled C section on Thursday morning,” said the couple.

The couple contacted the 911 operators after successfully delivering the baby on the bathroom floor. They also called DC Fire and EMS team for additional help.

“Step-by-step, they talked us through the incredibly intense moments right after she was born and as she took her first breaths,” said Hunt.

Hunt and Rivera thanked the firefighters and paramedics for treating the mother and her baby at home and then taking them to the hospital. “It’s a day we’ll never forget!" they said.

Weighing eight pounds and four ounces, the baby was born on March 1 and is now safe at home with her three-year-old brother.

“We’re so excited about life as a family of four — and reminded it’s going to be that much more unpredictable!” said Hunt and Rivera.

Speaking during an interview with CNN, the anchor said she "started to feel funny" when she woke up early. She said that she first called the doctor on her doula's (a trained professional who provides support and guidance through childbirth) advice and later woke her husband up.

“He was only awake for about five minutes before he delivered the baby on the floor,” she said.

Hunt further said that her husband "did what needed to be done", adding that they are grateful for being able to figure out.
