Maryland boy attacked during 'shark tank' expedition in Bahamas
According to preliminary reports 10-year-old explorer was bitten on his right leg in perilous attack

A boy from Maryland is lucky to be alive after he was attacked by a shark Monday during a shark tank expedition at a Bahamas resort, Fox News reported.
The 10-year-old boy's vacation turned into a nightmare after he was attacked by a shark at about 4pm EST on Paradise Island as the boy was "participating in an expedition in a shark tank at a local resort," according to a statement by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
The young explorer, according to preliminary reports, was bitten in his right leg as a result of the perilous attack and was taken to the hospital where he is currently in stable condition.
The police have not identified the Maryland boy and said that the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
The 10-year-old shark attack comes just one month after a Massachusetts woman was killed while on vacation in the Bahamas.
Previously, 44-year-old Lauren Erickson Van Wart was seriously injured after she was bitten by a shark while paddleboarding with a relative less than a mile off the western end of New Providence Island.
According to Gavin Naylor, programme director of the International Shark Attack File in Florida, between 30 and 40 shark species live around the Bahamas. However, the Caribbean reef shark, the bull shark, the tiger shark and the black tip shark have the highest bite frequency.
"Usually, it’s an accidental bite. They think it’s something else," he said. "Once in a while, they’ll actually single out people, and it’s very intentional."
