With Virat Kohli missing the first two Tests against England, fans and the cricketing fraternity had resorted to speculation as to the reason behind the star batter's absence — as he's known for his unmatched on-field competitiveness and commitment to the game.

However, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers, a close friend of Kohli and his former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate has finally opened up on the real reason behind Kohli's unavailability in the home series.

Kohli, who was initially part of the squad announced for the initial two Tests, had later withdrawn from both games before the start of the Hyderabad tie, citing personal reasons.

Responding to queries on his YouTube channel, de Villiers revealed that Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child and hence the right-hand batter had decided to withdraw himself from the England Tests.

"All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well," the former South African cricketer said.

While providing further clarity regarding his disclosure, De Villiers read his text message exchange with Kohli affirming the news that the former India captain are expecting their second child.

"Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you a little bit of love."
