Quake rattles western US-Mexico border region

LOS ANGELES: A 6.3 magnitude earthquake centered in the Pacific near the US-Mexico border shook the Mexican city of Tijuana and the
US city of San Diego early Friday, US quake monitors reported.

The earthquake struck at 1036 GMT with an epicenter some 269 kilometers southwest of Rosarito, Mexico, close to that country's far northwest border with the United States, the US Geological Survey reported.

The quake's epicenter was 13.3 kilometers underground, the USGS said.

No tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Fourteen minutes later there was a 4.7 aftershock centered at about the same depth and just north of the original location, the USGS said.

Local media reported that the quakes were felt across the San Diego area.
