A family in the United Kingdom was shocked after finding a mysterious three-foot-wide well under their house as the family was conducting a renovation in their kitchen.

Louise Watson told South West News Service that she believed it was absolutely beautiful inside.

"We were shocked as we thought it would be all grimy inside but it’s perfectly preserved."

The photos released by the family revealed a well lined with bricks which contained about 6 feet of water.

Louise Watson and her 46-year-old husband David found the well while they were carrying out extension work at the back of the three-bedroom cottage in Furness, Cumbria in 2023, according to the New York Post report

The house had been occupied by her parents-in-law before she moved with her husband and a son a decade ago, without knowledge of the well.

According to her, the builders were excavating the foundation of their property’s addition when they found a stone slab attached to their 130-year-old terrace.

After hammering it away, a massive hole was revealed and they also found water in it.

She said that none of them had a clue it was here despite we lived here for ten years.

Watson believed that it may have been used by farmers a hundred years ago and said that she was eager to know about its history.
