Ariana Grande gives hint at new song in 'Wicked 2'

In the Wicked sequel, Ariana Grande teases she will sing a new song, calling it a "pivotal moment" in her character Glinda's journey.

In an interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, the Grammy winner touched on the details of the track, saying that the Broadway production’s original composer, Stephen Schwartz, and her co-star Cynthia Erivo wrote it.

“It’s a pivotal moment in Glinda’s journey. It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before. In the stage show, this transformation happens offstage," she shared.

"But in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is. It’s a privilege to sing this song and be the first Glinda to bring it to life.”

Also, Glinda was Ariana's dream role, so the latter wanted to portray her as original as possible.

In this context, she shot down a proposal to make the original track Popular into a hip-hop number.

“In the spirit of being open to new things for the movie, my music team and I thought, let’s refresh the rhythm. Let’s, maybe, I don’t know, hip-hop it up a little bit. Ariana said, ‘Absolutely not, don’t do it. I want to be Glinda, not Ariana Grande playing Glinda,’” Stephen previously told the Los Angeles Times.
