Quentin Tarantino just revealed that he found Jamie Foxx “too cool” while he filmed for the role in Django Unchained.

The 57-year-old actor, who starred in the famous 2012 action film as the slave-turned-bounty hunter named Django, was told by his 61-year-old director, that he had to “let all the trappings of [his] real life go” in order to portray the character properly.”

During his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Foxx recalled working with Tarantino, stating, “I worked with him on Django Unchained, and he was very strict. “

“I was playing a slave, but he told me I was too cool to be a slave and that I needed to let all the trappings of my real life go. Once I stripped all those things away, the role made sense,” he further added.

Django Unchained, that was based on 1858 Texas where slave trade prevailed, Foxx was in the titular role who was freed by the bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) and embarks on a mission to save his wife Bromhilda von Schaft (Kerry Washington).

The film, also renowned for some rather distressing scenes Tarantino mentioned that what was shown in his movie did not even come close to “what happened during slavery times” calling the past scenario “a thousand times worse.”

“If I were to show it a thousand times worse, to me, that wouldn't be exploitative, that would just be how it is. If you can't take it, you can't take it,” Quentin Tarantino told NPR’s Fresh Air about the Jamie Foxx starrer, Django Unchained.
