Mason Gooding recently teased his return to the Scream universe and sang praises of the franchise’s icon, Neve Campbell.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight while promoting his new movie Heart Eyes, the 28-year-old actor hinted at the return of Scream 7, where he will reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin opposite Jasmin Savoy Brown.
He said, “The casting of Jasmin Savoy Brown, as it relates to myself, was unknowingly basically being granted a sister.”
The Aftermath star went on to add, “I check in with her all the time. I feel like being able to step into a character that has been inundated with so much love, on set and in general, has allowed Jasmine and I to fall into a rhetoric that’s super comfortable for us, whether it’s like talking on a scene or decisions made… Ultimately, I owe to her how lovely she is and how encompassing it is.”
Moving forward, Gooding also shed light on Campbell’s return to the franchise and her role as Sidney Prescott, saying, “That’s mother right there.”
Expanding on his, he articulated, “I feel like that’s the godmother of the genre that we are so lucky to appropriate in Heart Eyes, [which] is the idea of marrying two different tones.”
“Obviously, with the over-encompassing one being a more horrific and more high-octane experience that she still to this day has always handled with a level of ease and care and stoicism that’s made each iteration of her character, and I can say all of her work,” Gooding noted.
It is pertinent to mention that, per Deadline, the production of Scream 7, the Kevin Williamson-directed film, has already started.
