Prosecutors in Sean "Diddy" Combs’ trial have raised concern that the rapper’s lawyers are deliberately dragging the cross-examination of their star witness Casandra "Cassie" Ventura.
Ventura is 8-and-a-half months pregnant and has been testifying in court for four days now. She has shared in detail what Diddy’s "freak-offs" were like, alleging that he coerced her into participating.
Now, prosecutors allege that Diddy’s lawyers, who have cross-examined Cassie on May 15 and 16, are dragging it out so she goes into labor and the trial can be considered a mistrial.
They argue that Diddy’s team has had "multiple hours" longer to cross-question Cassie than they had.
Prosecutors have written a letter to judge Arun Subramanian, noting that the defense had the opportunity to cross question Cassie on Wednesday, but ended the trial early and put it off for Thursday.
They added that 400 exhibits produced by the defense “predictably and significantly delayed the proceedings" in the trial.
They asked that Diddy's lawyers not be allowed to drag the cross-examination into next week as Cassie could go into labor and that would risk a mistrial.
