Idris Elba, King Charles join hands for documentary project

Idris Elba and King Charles have come together for a documentary collaboration with Netflix.

Elba is making a documentary about The King’s Trust, previously called The Prince’s Trust, which helped the actor become an actor through an arts grant which enabled him to study acting.

In the film, the Thor actor will accompany the King as he opens up about the charity's work and his personal support for it. The documentary will feature some of the one million people the charity has helped and their stories.

Elba and Diene Petterle’s production company 22 Summers will produce the film, which begins filming next week. The film is set to be directed by Ashley Francis-Roy.

"The King’s Trust gave me an opportunity that changed my life," Elba said in a statement.

"At a time when I didn’t have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support — including financial help — that helped me take those first steps to advance my career,"

Elba added: “Today, through the Elba Hope Foundation, I’m focused on creating those same opportunities for young people who are full of potential but lacking access.

"Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open," the Luther star pointed out.

"This documentary is about shining a light on what’s possible when it does — and why the work of The King’s Trust remains so important," he concluded.

Idris Elba and King Charles’ documentary will hit Netflix in fall 2026.
