Edward Snowden joins Twitter, follows NSA

Fugitive former US spy contractor Edward Snowden on Tuesday joined Twitter and the only account he is currently following is that of the National Security Agency (NSA).

Shortly after his first Tweet, Snowden responded to the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who welcomed him to Twitter.

Snowden's account also includes photographs of newspapers with the front-page news that the second US Circuit Court of Appeals had found the bulk collection of Americans' phone data was illegal, going beyond what Congress intended when it wrote Section 215 of the Patriot Act.

He fled the US in May 2013, after revealing that his government was collecting telephone data from millions of US citizens, monitoring vast amounts of private internet traffic and eavesdropping on the conversations of foreign friends and foes alike.
