Prince Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014 as a working royal, has a big request waiting for his father King Charles for the much-anticipated Birmingham event in 2027.
Following their meeting in September 2025, the father and son have reignited hopes of a reconciliation after the years of feud that has kept them apart. Even though the Palace had released a statement about the ‘private tea’, there were no further official details revealed of them.
The Duke of Sussex is now hoping to fulfil a dream as he “desperately” wants his father to open the games, a sporting event of injured, sick and wounded veterans, as it returns to the UK for the first time since its inception.
Even though, it is a big ask, photographer Arthur Edwards, who has closely worked with the royal family, gave hope that it is a possibility that the King could say yes to the request.
“I’ve worked with the King for many years and he’s a very decent man, very caring… It may happen, it’s up to His Majesty,” Arthur said during The Royal Exclusive show. “This is Harry trying to make peace and seek some sort of forgiveness.
He said that while not much has happened after the meeting at Clarence House, no one knows what was discussed between the two. He noted that “something could happen… anything is possible”.
Of the Invictus Games, the royal photographer said that he covered the first Games in Colorado Springs and dubbed it “fantastic” The way these soldiers and injured servicemen make the effort to compete, it’s incredible and Harry is a star for doing that.”
Meanwhile, a source previously told The Sun that it would be “appropriate” for the King to attend Invictus given that he is Head of the Armed Forces.
Also, the sight of Harry and Charles together on stage when the game opens would send a hopeful message and represent a “heartwarming” gesture in the spirit of the occasion.
“People helping to plan the Games are convinced it will happen and are planning for Charles to play a role in the opening ceremony.”
Although, it remains to be seen how things would pan out.
