Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa met King Charles at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
The King expressed support for Syria and its people, highlighting the importance of rebuilding the nation and fostering cooperation between the two countries.
During his UK visit, President Al-Sharaa also held talks with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
The leaders discussed the current situation in the Middle East, emphasising the need to avoid further escalation and restore stability in the region.
A key point of discussion was reopening the Strait of Hormuz, amid growing economic uncertainty.
Starmer outlined plans to strengthen ties on migration issues, including strategies for managing the return of people without the right to remain in the UK.
Both sides agreed to maintain close communication moving forward.
The Palace visit came amid reports that King Charles attached two separate notes expressing reservations over Peter Mandelson’s appointment as Britain’s ambassador to the United States.
When asked to formally approve the posting, the monarch reportedly asked, “Do you really think that’s wise?”
