Guy Fieri is opening up about his recovery after a frightening accident left him sidelined for weeks.

In November, while filming his upcoming series Flavor Town Food Fight, Fieri slipped down a set of steps.

Consequently, the beloved ‘Mayor of Flavortown’ suffered a severe tear in his right quad.

The injury forced him into a wheelchair for nearly two months followed by crutches before he was able to carefully walk again.

Fieri told PEOPLE about the ‘trying holiday’, “You know what, you get some real appreciation for having the ability to just get up and walk around and do everything you used to.”

Known for his high-energy lifestyle, Fieri admitted the downtime was tough.

“I’m a big CrossFit and hiking guy, so eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of crazy. But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy,” he said.

Doctors described the injury as one of the worst they had seen with Fieri’s leg compressing in a way rarely encountered.

Despite the setback, the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host kept his trademark humor and joked that his fall “looked like I was probably doing the splits”.

Calling the accident “the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years,” Fieri remains optimistic.

He assured fans he’ll be “up and ready and healthy and rolling by the time we hit the Super Bowl”.
