Jennifer Lawrence shares her horrific experience in Hollywood.
The Cause Way star, 35, revealed she lost a major role to Margot Robbie in Quentin Tarantino movie for not being “pretty enough.”
Lawrence appeared on recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast where she claimed that Tarantino was eyeing her for a role in 2019’s movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but other folks had conflicting opinion about this selection.
“Well, he did [want to cast me], and then everybody was like, ‘She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate,’” Lawrence told Josh Horowitz. “And then they didn’t.”
Horowitz responded “that isn’t true,” but Lawrence was adamant the story was accurate.
“I’m pretty sure it is true. Or it’s that thing where I’ve been telling the story this way for so long that I believe it,” she quipped.
“I’m pretty sure that happened, or he just never was considering me for the part and the internet just went out of their way to call me ugly.”
During Tarantino’s film casting in 2017, Lawrence was rumoured to play Tate along with Robbie.
Sharon’s sister was loud and clear that Lawrence is not the suitable person for the role.
“She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon,” Debra told TMZ at the time. “My pick would be Margot simply because of her physical beauty and even the way she carries herself is similar to Sharon.”
Nevertheless, Robbie starred with Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Debra was invited to watch the filming and Robbie play her late sister.
“She made me cry because she sounded just like Sharon,” Debra said of Robbie in a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair.
“The tone in her voice was completely Sharon, and it just touched me so much that big tears [started falling]. The front of my shirt was wet. I actually got to see my sister again … nearly 50 years later.”
As this speculation made its place already, Tarantino year’s later decided to address it.
“But early on, I investigated the idea of Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky [Fromme]. She came down to the house to read the script cause I wasn’t letting it out,” Tarantino said during a 2021 episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast.
“So, she came down to the house and I gave her the script and said, ‘Go in my living room or go outside by the pool and read it.’”
