Gilberto Mora is sending shockwaves across soccer world after he played a key role in the big win over Ecuador on Tuesday, June 30.

Mexico’s 17-year-old trailblazer, Mora proved instrumental for Mexico in securing knockout win in the World Cup round of 32.

Mexico beat Ecuador 2-0 at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Mora, who played at midfield position for Mexico also became the second-youngest player ever to kickoff a World Cup knockout match behind Brazil’s G.O.A.T. Pelé.

Pelé’s record still stands to this day as the youngest player to start in a World Cup knockout stage game at 17 years and 239 days old; Mora is 17 years and 259 days, just 20 days older than Brazil great Pelé.

Pelé played the knockout stage game for Brazil at the 1958 World Cup held in Sweden.

Mora played two matches for Mexico this 2026 FIFA World Cup, debuting in El Tri’s opener and starting in its last group-stage game.

Records pouring in like monsoon showers, Mora has also clinched the title of becoming the youngest player to start and substitute on for Mexico at a World Cup game.

Mora, who plays for Tijuana football club Liga MX is widely seen as an emerging soccer star.

Mexico swept through all three group matches and qualified for the round of 32 after securing first place in Group A.

Mexico now plays another home match on Sunday, July 5, in the round of 16 against the winner of Wednesday’s match between England and DR Congo.
