Ocarina of Time remake arrives November 5 on Nintendo Switch 2: What's new

Nintendo has officially announced that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, during the company’s 40th Anniversary Direct presentation on September 8.

The remake features a complete visual overhaul with photorealistic graphics, full voice acting, and a symphonic orchestral soundtrack. Series producer Eiji Aonuma showcased an extended gameplay demo, guiding viewers through iconic locations including Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Field, and Castle Town, the latter now fully explorable rather than using pre-rendered backgrounds.

Modern-day improvements include a dedicated jump button, the ability to swim underwater, freedom of movement with the free camera, and a Threads of Time gameplay mechanic that assists players with objectives. The combat remains largely identical to the original game and runs at a steady rate of 60 frames per second.

Perhaps one of the most unique features uses the Nintendo Switch 2's microphone: Players may hum the ocarina tunes out loud, and the game character, Link, will play the corresponding tune automatically. For the enthusiasts, there will be a collaboration between Nintendo and Hori to release a real-life ocarina for the game.

Also, Nintendo unveiled the 40th anniversary-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console with Joy-Cons, a Pro Controller, and a carrying case.

The remake will come just two weeks before the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19. It makes Nintendo one of the rare publishers willing to compete against GTA VI. Prices will presumably be around $59.99 digital and $69.99 physical.
