Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy's son in police custody over mother's shooting: what we know

Kansas City Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy’ son has been detained after opening fire on her mother on Sunday night, July 26.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Elijah Zion Bieniemy was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of his mother, Mia Bieniemy.

Nate Taylor, who reports on the Chiefs, shared a post on X (formerly called Twitter) and an update about the condition of Bieniemy, who sustained gunshots at her Ashburn, Virginia residence.

Taylor, while citing Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, wrote, “Mia is stable, which is a plus. She’s good blessings. But things happen.”

Mia Bieniemy, 57, was shifted to hospital after authorities received an emergency call and found her with multiple gunshot wounds.

Elijah Bieniemy is charged with malicious wounding, felony firearm use, and firing a gun inside a home.

He remains in police custody without bond in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Eric Bieniemy was part of the early staff members of Chiefs coach Andy Reid in Kansas City in 2013.

Bieniemy served as the running backs coach before being elevated to the role of offensive coordinator.

During his stint with the Chiefs in five seasons, the buzzing Bieniemy helped guide the Chiefs to qualify for three Super Bowls, winning two of them.
