UK heatwave deaths nearly double to almost 3,000: UKHSA reports

The UK Health Security Agency has released latest data that affected caused hundreds of heat-related deaths this summer.

The agency reported that the heat-related deaths have multiplied when compared to last summer, amid rising temperatures in the UK.

The data reveals an estimated 8,877 heat-related deaths have been reported in May and June alone.

An estimated 753 deaths have been directly linked to the May heatwave (24-27 May) and a further 2,124 during the June heatwave (21-28 June).

Just last month, England recorded its hottest June, according to the Met Office.

The temperatures reached 37.7°C in Lingwood, Norfolk, on 26 June 2026.

This blistering heatwave broke the previous record of 35.6C recorded in 1957 and was also reached in 1976.

The UK Health Security Agency also warned that, “While these figures remain interim, they are already approaching the annual record reported by UKHSA in 2022.”

These figures are nearly double those recorded during summer 2025.

This summer, the Brits have undergone multiple spells of blistering heatwaves, with temperatures reaching 35C in May, June, and July during the same year as harsh weather conditions continue.
