The former first lady wore a green-and-white striped dress as she appeared on stage at Martha’s Vineyard Talks.

The event drew a large crowd at Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center for a pair of talks with journalist Michele Norris on Sunday, August 23.

In Instagram carousels, Obama revealed that she spoke at length during a pair of talks at the Martha’s Vineyard Author Series with Michele Norris.

The Look explores how former first lady’s style and beauty choices have evolved over time.

“It wouldn’t matter what the content of the speech was. The way the press often covered it was, ‘She was wearing X,Y,Z. her arms looked like this,’” Michelle Obama said.

She continued while revealing when she realised the media scrutiny had a spotlight on her, telling the Island audience, that “when the media started taking notice … I think some of our Democtatic opponents felt like ‘We need to target her,’ and that’s when the negative press started.”

This year’s author series kicked off in June with an appearance by Belle Burden, followed by speakers such as Sally Mann, Maggie Gaberman, Richard Russo and Sen. Raphael Warnock.
