Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have received a significant charging upgrade this year, with both phones capable of charging upgrade this year, with both phones capable of reaching 50% charge in just 15 minutes when connected to a compatible 60W or higher power adapter.

But hitting those speeds needs a special charger.

The iPhone 18 Pro series needs chargers with Standard Power Range Adjustable Voltage Supply (SPR AVS), a variant of adjustable voltage supply (SPR AVS), a variant of adjustable voltage supply that enables the charger and phone to communicate the correct voltage for safe fast charging.

While SPR AVS is becoming more common, it still isn’t as widespread as standards such as PPS, meaning many 60W+ chargers won’t deliver the advertised speeds.

The charging upgrade comes alongside another battery-related change: the iPhone 18 Pro Max packs a battery over 20 watt-hours, triggering additional shipping requirements.

Apple introduced a “prepare to ship” feature that discharges the battery below 20Wh for shipping, repair, or trade-in. The limit is removed automatically upon activation.
