Tom Holland manifested Florence Pugh’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day cameo years ago.
Appearing on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the Oscar-nominated actress reflected on her Marvel journey, crediting Holland for creating demand for her to appear in the hit franchise.
“Years ago, when I just kind of started my relationship with Marvel and Black Widow had come out, my Yelena wasn’t as obviously big as all of the other big superheroes,” Pugh, 30, explained.

That same year, Holland expressed his interest in working with the Little Women star during a red carpet interview for Spider-Man: No Way Home. “I wanna work with Florence Pugh,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I think she’s amazing. She’s so good in that movie and all the movies that she’s done. I think she’s fantastic.”
Pugh told Fallon that because of Holland’s comments, “fans were then so excited about the idea of it.”
The actress first portrayed Yelena Belova in 2021’s Black Widow before reprising the role in Thunderbolts in 2025.
Pugh is also set to return as Yelena in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to hit theatres on December 18.
