76pc of Kerry-Lugar money spent via NGOs: Additional secy

ISLAMABAD: Additional Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Iftikhar Rao has said that the government has yet received $2.08 billion under Kerry-Lugar Bill of which 76 percent was being spent off-budget through various NGOs and the rest 24 percent on-budget.

Briefing the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) here on Thursday, Iftikhar Rao said that there is no record of the money spent through NGOs.

The additional secretary said the government was trying to urge the relevant authorities to spend almost 50 percent of the amount on-budget so that it may reflect on government budget.

PAC has sought the list of NGOs who spent the money received under Kerry-Lugar bill.
