Doctor’s operating theatre selfie draws public ire in Egypt

Seems like the selfie fever is not going to end soon as recently an Egyptian doctor fell prey to it, who took the selfie in an operating theatre drawing the ire of public.

Dr. Abdullatif Ashour - obstetrician in Egypt - took the craze far by taking a selfie with his colleagues in the midst of performing a Caesarian delivery, al-Arabiya reported.

The doctor, who works at Itay al-Barud hospital in El Beheira province, went on to post the selfie on his Facebook page without caring that the body of his patient behind him was showing in the picture.

The image provoked several comments filled with anger, and the had to delete it within half-an-hour.

Ashour has since shared photos taken by a colleague of a patient undergoing a hysterectomy operation in order to contend that “photographing a patient during an operation, after gaining his or her permission, is not a legal or moral violation, provided that his or her face is not shown”.

Asked in the comments if he had taken permission from the patient for the selfie, he replied, “Yes… I swear”.
