KARACHI: Javed Khanani of the Khanani and Kalia group, died on Sunday after falling from an under-construction building in Karachi’s Mohammad Ali Society, said police.

According to SP Gulshan-e-Iqbal Dr Fahad Ahmed Mukhtar, the under-construction building belonged to the deceased and the case appears to be a suicide.

Khanani had some money laundering cases on him and investigation is underway regarding the death, he added.

Police has decided to investigate the deceased’s business partner and the labourers working at the building.

Hospital sources said that Javed Khanani was already dead when brought at the hospital’s emergency department.

When doctors at the emergency examined him they saw blood from his nose, ear and neck.

Sources further said when asked about the incident, the attendants said he suffered electric shock and then fell down from the building’s fourth floor.

Khanani’s attendants didn't allow a complete examination and had the dead body taken back home, sources added.

Funeral prayers of Javed Khannai were offered in Defence phase 4. He will be laid to rest in Gizri graveyard.

The money exchange group has been under scrutiny by FIA since 2008 due to laundering and fraud allegations.
