Shahryar inaugurates PCB High Performance Centre in Karachi

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s High Performance Centre at Karachi’s Regional Cricket Academy at the National Stadium was finally inaugurated on Thursday by the board’s chairman Shahryar Khan.

The High Performance Centre is named after former captain Hanif Mohammad who passed away earlier this year and has various facilities including nine practice wickets at the nets, 42 rooms for accommodation of players and teams, lecture room, gymnasium and swimming pool.

The construction on the project was started in early 2011 and was halted in between due to changes in PCB, however Shahryar Khan took interest in resumption of the project which is now finally ready to serve the cricket in Karachi.

“It was PCB’s vision to unearth talent from the grass-root level, and the HPC will help the young players to work on their skills and showcase their talent at the international level.” Said Shahryar Khan while inaugurating the HCP.

“The Hanif Mohammad HPC would help look after young talent available in the Sindh region and provide opportunities to the players to enhance their skills under the supervision of professional coaches/ support staff employed by the PCB,” he added.

According to sources, at the moment only the ground floor of HCP has become operational and the upper floors are yet to be furnished with equipment.
