Police received 96 threat alerts in Balochistan last year

Quetta: Security agencies received 96 threat alerts in Balochistan last year, said Quetta police DIG Abdul Razzaq Cheema on Wednesday.

Out of the 96 threat alerts, 40 were in Quetta, he said. The police have remained on high alert to avoid any terror attack, he added.

In the on-going operation in the province, about 621 illegal immigrants have also been nabbed. People who have been arrested had no legal proof of being a citizen of the country. Several others have also been arrested as per the Foreigners Act, 1946, of Pakistan.

Since January, this year, about 157 absconding criminals have been arrested and 49 suspects have been apprehended for aerial firing charges.

Moreover, as many as 71 suspects have been nabbed during search and combing operations. Weapons and explosives making materials were also seized from their possession.

In Quetta, the police have engaged in an exchange of fire with fugitives five times and five vandals have been killed, he remarked.

“Not only have we hastened our crackdown against criminals but operation against illegal immigrants is ongoing with full force,” Cheema told Geo News. Crackdown is also ongoing in Nushki, Chagai and Mastung, he added.

He added that police have installed about 63 fully-functional CCTVs in the city to keep a close watch on all the activities.
