PESHAWAR: The public might forgive Ayesha Gulalai if she returned the embezzled money and apologised, said the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA’s ex-assistant Noor Zaman.

Addressing a news conference on Monday, Zaman claimed he had evidence of Gulalai misappropriating from the amount she received for progress work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that he would take up the issue with National Accountability Bureau and KP Ehtesab Commission so that investigation is started against her.

He was at the news conference with other PTI leaders, Nawaz Mehmood and Saleem Khan.

While talking about Gulalai’s “corrupt practices”, Zaman said she received Rs11.2 million for a link road in Bannu, but out of the amount she used Rs4.7 million in the construction of a house, which he personally witnessed. Besides, he maintained, she also took embezzled of Rs0.6 million from the money allocated from a water supply scheme in Karak.

The former MNA’s assistant said Gulalai pressurised him for receipts of the amount, but he refused. He added the counter terrorism department also detained him for two days on Gulalai’s call.

Zaman said he was ready to be held for helping Gulalai in her corrupt practices.

The statements against Gulalai come in the wake of the harassment allegations she levelled against PTI Chairperson Imran Khan and leader Naeem-ul-Haq.
