Suspect killed, two injured in separate Karachi incidents

KARACHI: A suspected street criminal was killed while two people were injured in separate incidents in Karachi early Wednesday, officials said.

The suspect was killed in an alleged shootout with police and Rangers in Korangi area of the city, while his accomplice managed to get away. The deceased was identified as Nasir alias Kala.

A spokesman for Sindh Rangers said the suspects were busy looting citizens, when a Rangers' vehicle reached the scene.

The suspects opened fire on personnel and initially fled from scene. They were chased down and one of the suspects was killed in ensuing exchange of fire, the spokesman said, adding that police had also arrived at the spot in the meantime.

It was further said the deceased had been involved in street crimes in Gulshan Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar areas.

In other incidents, a policeman and a security guard were injured as a result of firing by robbers in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Buffer Zone areas respectively.

Police also claimed to have nabbed a mugger from Pakistan Bazar area. The suspect was identified as Ishaq.
