KARACHI: A minor boy was severely injured Monday night here in the Bin Qasim Town when an electrical wire fell on him, burning and rendering him unconscious, authorities said.

Police said since the boy, who is said to be 14 years old, was on the N-5 National Highway when a high-tension electrical cable fell over him and he was severely burned, was unconscious, they were unable to determine exactly what happened or figure out his identity.

That was also why the police said they were searching for the boy's family since he was not carrying any form of identification or documents with him. They were also unable to ascertain the injured boy's address and were looking for his relatives.

An ambulance arrived sometime after the boy lost consciousness and transported him to a private hospital near Stadium Road, where his condition was revealed to be critical.

Police also mentioned that they would record a statement once the boy regained consciousness.

Back in August, two cases of children losing their limbs due to electrocution had surfaced.

Eleven-year-old Haris, a resident of Surjani Town, had slipped and fallen from the second floor of a madrassa.

According to reports, he had tried to lessen the impact of his fall by holding on to a low-hanging high tension wire, which electrocuted him. As a result, both of his arms were badly burnt and had to be amputated.

A day before that, eight-year-old Umer of Karachi’s Ahsanabad area had been electrocuted when a loose wire fell on him. He was playing in the street on the third day of Eid-ul-Azha when the tragedy struck.

Umer, who was rushed to Civil Hospital in a critical condition, had to have both of his arms amputated.
