ABU DHABI: Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali found a new way to get out during the third day of the second Test match between Pakistan and Australia in Abu Dhabi.

During the ninth over of the morning session, Azhar was run out in a bizarre way while batting on 64.

In Peter Siddle’s over, Azhar edged a delivery past gully on the drive driving the ball towards the rope. Assuming the ball had gone for a boundary and without waiting for the umpire’s signal for four, Azhar and his batting partner Asad Shafiq strolled to the middle of the pitch for a discussion.

However, in reality, the ball had stopped just short and was picked up by Mitchell Starc. The left-arm seamer quickly threw the ball towards wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who took down the stumps to dismiss Azhar.

Not knowing what had happened, the batsman stood in the middle of the pitch confused for some time before registering what had happened and walked off.

Twitter reacts to Azhar Ali getting out

The moment was not missed by the Twitterati with the majority calling it the "most bizarre runout" in cricketing history.

Mickey Arthur was definitely not impressed with the runout.

Neither would it seem skipper Sarfraz Ahmed.

Others wondered if the gossip was worth the run out.

For some, it was just another day in Pakistan cricket.
