Pakistan women team aims to improve fitness as camp for WI series kicks off

KARACHI: Pakistan women cricket team’s preparation for the upcoming home series against West Indies women kicked off in Karachi on Thursday with an aim to work extensively on improving physical fitness.

The first phase of training camp is being held at the Karachi’s National Stadium. 

As many as 20 players invited for the camp trained in two sessions on the opening day. 

Abdul Raqeeb, the manager of the women cricket team, stated that girls are highly motivated for the series and looking forward to giving good results.

“The camp has just commenced and it will continue till 29th. It gives all the players a good opportunity to warm up for the home series and produce better results,” Raqib told geo.tv

“The coaches are working hard to make an overall improvement but the focus is to work on physical strength and fitness so that players can give their maximum on the field,” he added.

Players are being supervised and guided by three foreign coaches. New Zealand’s Mark Coles as the head coach has Andy Richards from Australia as batting consultant and Gemaal Hussain, of Pakistani origin, from the UK as a fitness trainer.

“The players during the two-week camp will undergo different skill sessions with the coaching staff and will also play practice games that will help them improve their fitness and skills,” the head coach Mark Coles had said about the camp.
