YORBA LINDA: At least two people were killed and two others reported missing as a small aircraft crashed into a suburban area of the Californian city, US media said.

Two houses were said to be on fire as the aeroplane, too, burst into flames after the crash.

Rescue work following the horrific crash was underway in Yorba Linda's suburban neighbourhood, international media reported, whereas a local posted a video of the area shortly after the incident.

"A plane crashed in my neighborhood," Joshua Nelson wrote on Twitter.
