ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Firdaus Ashiq Awan said on Saturday that democracy and parliament cannot function up to its potential without opposition members.

Awan in a brief press talk after a session at the Bani Gala said that the opposition shouldn’t hijack the parliament and expressed her desire that the opposition presents the recommendation to the government.

She said that the premier has given a few targets to the new economic team and has given all powers to the Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, adding that he has advised the team to bring down inflation.

Responding to a question, the advisor said that former finance minister Asad Umar holds no grievances with the government and will soon join the cabinet.

“He will be back soon and will be defending the vision of PM Imran,” she said.

The advisor said that Fawad Chaudhry wasn’t able to attend the meeting as he was in Lahore but will soon be present in the meetings to come of spokespersons.

She said that Omar Ayub has been given an additional charge of petroleum.
