KABUL: An explosion tore through the entrance of a heavily-guarded US-run civil-military base in eastern Afghanistan Thursday, causing an unknown number of casualties, an Afghan official said.
The Taliban, the main militant group behind a escalating insurgency, said the group had attacked the base, in Gardez, the capital of eastern Paktia province, with a suicide car bomb. (AFP)
